The Stress to Succeed.

Sorry this will a sort of different post.
It hit me the other day. I wave of self doubt.

I can’t describe how much I’ve been busting my butt in order to be successful at university! And currently being in the end of my third year, after changing programs and feeling more interested in what I’m learning, I still far from being successful.

I recently a midterm back. I studied so hard for this exam. I studied with two other people from the same class and we quizzed each other until we memorized and understood everything from out lectures.

After I wrote the exam I felt so freakin’ confident!

Oh, the oxymoron. Does calm even exist?

I believed that I knew the answer to each question and I wrote everything that I could think of…until my hand fell off!

And when I got the mark back, unlike a lot of my exams, I was confident I did well. But was surprised to see that I got a 52%. What the freakin’ heck!? And that was the wave of self doubt…self doubt and believing I’m not smart enough for this venture; the venture into university and beyond.

How else am I supposed to raise my GPA after going from a program that I didn’t enjoy, to one that I did? How else am I supposed to raise my GPA if I study hard and believe that I could do, and suppress my test anxiety? How much can I actually do…to actually raise my GPA and reach my dream after university?

My dream has always been (well ever since I left my other program) to go to physiotherapy school after a bachelor but how is that possible if I cannot raise my GPA to qualify?

Passion and the dream to succeed never seems to be enough in this university system.

So I had to change my dream. Try as much as I can to do the best I can but accept what may come. Graduate and accept the degree with what ever marks I get and then go from there. Then decide what is possible for me…

And I continue to question the university system and the stress they put on success. But there is nothing I can do about it; it will always be focused on marks instead of the passion and the interest of students.

Ahh the system… I just need to be calm, breathe and do the best I can! Then go from there, whatever happens there is always a window or door to go through.

Setting Goals & Getting Back on Track.

Hey hey!

Recently I’ve be off track with eating healthy and working out. I found that because I had one major goal that always seemed so far away my motivation slowly slowly disappeared.

So I had to get back on track! And the only way I could think of doing this is by making small and reasonable goals so I can actually reach them…

and I want to share them with you! YAH!

I found that through this “journey” goals are the only thing that keep me going.

I wanted to focus on three areas: Healthy Eating, Exercise and Mental Wellness
and I want short, medium and long term goals or Daily, Weekly and Monthly.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY make goals that you can (for sure) reach!

“Control what you can control”

That means: avoid weight goals. I always fluctuate weights so I can’t control what weight my body will be.

That also means: make lifestyle goals. These goals should be something that can be made into a lifestyle. Once you reach them don’t move on to the next goal. Keep going – conquer!

Finally, this means: make realistic goals OBVIOUSLY!

And…that is all!

I feel proud of my goals. I really thought about them and feel that they are reasonable, for sure!

My New Favourite Meal!

Hello Y’all!

Eating healthy has always been the hardest thing for me. It’s hard to stay motivated and focused when you have to think ahead and plan what you want to eat for the week – ain’t nobody got time for that! Right?

Wrong!

I’ve actually found it easier than I expected and it may be the sole reason why I can keep up with eating healthy

this time (third time’s the charm)

One thing I found is meals don’t have to be ‘gourmet‘ or intricate. Sometimes, the simplest meals are better and bonus: you won’t dread making them!

So here is one of my favourite meals that is so simple but it so delicious! I loved eating in summer and it can definitely continue into fall.

Tomato and Goat Cheese Salad

Ingredients:

– 1 fresh tomato
– 2 tbsp crumbled goat cheese
– balsamic vinaigrette
– handful of spinach
– handful of sliced almonds

 

Steps:

1. Slice the tomato and place it on your plate
2. Place spinach in the centre
3. Crumble goat cheese on top
4. Sprinkle almonds on top
5. Drizzle vinaigrette over the salad

Make-up Favourites!

Now, I don’t consider myself an expert in make-up and to be honest…I just got interested in make-up recently, since I wasn’t allowed to wear make-up until I was about to graduate high school. So I’ve had ALOT to catch up on and I’m only starting to experiment.

Let me tell you, MAKE-UP IS FUN!

Moving on….

After all that verbal ‘splatter’ I’m going to branch out and do my first ever make-up post.

After some experimenting and researching and getting advice from my (may I say it…beautiful) friends I found some staples that I stick to! These products are simple but are perfect for a minimal, everyday look since I’m not an adventurous type!

Just some notes:

Now I don’t normally wear primer because it’s just another step that takes time but when I do wear it, I definitely see its benefits.

I also hate wearing full-on foundation so NARS tinted moisturizer is so much more comfortable for me, especially during the summer. And adding the MAC powder makes the coverage just as good, or even better than foundation.

To add colour to my very very very pale face, I add a little bronzer and blush.
And to fix my very pale brows and nearly invisible eyelashes I must wear mascara and fill in my brows everyday or else I look extremely ghostly.

Sea Salt Spray.

Hey y’all!

This summer I have been absolutely loving sea salt spray.

*disclaimer* – I am no hair expert, but I’ve just been loving this product and wanted to share “le love”!

I hate spending time on my hair (ain’t nobody got time for that)… and because my hair is short there isn’t much to do with it anyway.

So sea salt spray is my saviour!

I heard about Bumble and Bumble from my friend and decided to try it out. Although I am no expert, I am happy with this product. It just gives my hair the little bit of texture that it needs.

Just spray it into my damp hair and scrunch…voila!

Personally, I was nervous to use sea salt spray because all I could imagine was crunchy and stiff hair…but surprisingly my hair feels normal.

How To Be Happy.

 

 

This is kinda of like a #MotivationalMonday style post but it’s a Friday and I’m going to post it anyway!
…. I’m a rebel….  ;)

I know this may seem like a silly post but I know that (sometimes) I find it hard to remind myself how easy it is to become happy again.

Currently, I’m trying to move on, for the second time, from a past relationship. And this time seems even harder than before.

“How could I possibly fall again for a guy, when I know how he is just using me? And how I know he is just re-using the stupid, manipulated moves that got me the first time, for the second time!”

Anyway, I’m trying to leave all of that behind. Move on from all the negative…but that is obviously easier said than done.

When something gets me down, it always seems easier to deal with the pain instead of focusing on the better and working on getting happy again…to not focus on what happened but WILL happen.

So here are a few things that I do to get me back into the kick-ass-happy-go-lucky attitude!

1. Smile.
I have been told many times that I have the worst “resting bitch face” so I love trying to smile. To prove everyone wrong – but also because if I smile, my inside starts to smile too!
Although, sometimes I feel so self-concious walking down the street, smiling from ear-to-ear, it does make me feel better.

2. Allow yourself to pig out.
We all know that it helps to have that one day where you don’t leave the house for a day. Watch One Tree Hill episodes all day and eat whatever the hell you want. But keep in the back of your mind that it’s only for a day, because bad food will just increase your bad mood spiral.

3. Exercise.
This is connected to number 2. Try to get back to exercising and eating healthy as soon as possible because we all know:

“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.”

And that’s all the proof we need that exercise is good for our emotions and well-being.

4. Dance Parties.
This is the last and most important way to get happy again. Hold crazy dance parties and sing at the top of your lungs because you just don’t give a crap anymore!
Stop caring about what the world thinks of you and just dance and sing it all out!
